Independence Day

Independence Day John 8:32

Tomorrow millions of Americans will be celebrating Independence Day or the 4th of July. This day is set aside to celebrate this country’s Independence from Great Britain. This day is filled with a number of fun filled activities such as family reunions, cook outs, fire works, and the list just goes on. However there is another Independence Day that some people may not be aware of. You don’t have to wait until July 4th to celebrate; in fact you can celebrate everyday. Over 2000 years ago Christ obtained our Independence from sin. Just like the freedom of this country was obtained through the blood of brave soldiers who gave their life for our freedom; our freedom from sin was purchased through Jesus’ blood.
In John 8:32 Jesus said, You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. When Jesus stood before Pilate prior to his crucifixion Pilate asked him, WHAT IS TRUTH! (See John8:38) Like many today Pilate did not believe that there was no such thing as absolute truth. They believe Truth is in the eye of the beholder. But Jesus answers this question in John 17: 17 when he prays to his father and asks him to SANCTIFY THEM THROUGH THY TRUTH THY WORD IS TRUTH! The word of God is truth! In John 8:32 Jesus informs us that this truth will liberate us; set us free or grant us our independence! Independence from what? Our sin. Strongholds that are holding us hostage! Disappointment and pain that we have experienced at the hands of others! How does it do all of that? It does it through our obedience! See Psalms 119:9! Our freedom from sin hinges on our obedience! Our deliverance hinges on our obedience! Satan does not want us to be exposed to truth (Word of God). He knows that the word is power! When Clark Kent wanted to go from being a mild mannered man to superman, he went to a phone booth. When we want to move from being a victim to a victor, we go to the word of God! The word of god tells me who I am and whose I am! It tells me that no weapon that is formed against shall prosper and that we are more than conquerors! Have you started celebrating? Get your shouting shoes from out the closet and lets celebrate our INDEPENDENCE!
